How Crumplet compares
Pocket Casts, Overcast, and Snipd are all good apps, and each does something Crumplet doesn't. Here's the honest comparison, and where Crumplet is genuinely different rather than just another player in the same category.
Pocket Casts
~£31/yr (Plus)What it's great at: A polished, mature podcast client with great cross-device sync, a strong desktop/web app, and — as of 2025 — most of that available free.
What it doesn't do: Plus/Patron sell storage, sync, and cosmetics, not curation. Everything you follow shows up in one feed, all the time; there's no concept of a schedule or of content aging out.
Overcast
~£12/yr (Premium)What it's great at: Smart Speed, voice boost, and per-podcast prioritisation make it one of the best-tuned iOS listening experiences around.
What it doesn't do: iOS only. Smart playlists sort and prioritise what you already follow — they don’t create schedule-based windows, and there’s no exported RSS feed you can point another app at.
Snipd
~£57/yr (Premium)What it's great at: The most genuinely "smart" app in this list — AI transcript search, episode summaries, highlight clipping, and export to Notion/Readwise/Obsidian.
What it doesn't do: Snipd's intelligence operates on individual episodes and clips within them, after you've already chosen what to listen to. It doesn't decide what enters your feed or when — that curation step is still on you.
Where Crumplet is different
All three apps above operate on the same basic model: a single feed of everything you follow, sorted or enhanced in various ways. Crumplet replaces that model with pools (podcast sources grouped and filtered by rules) attached to schedule blocks (time-of-day and day-of-week windows), generating one personal RSS feed that only ever shows what's relevant to the current block — closer to a radio station than an inbox.
The output is a standard RSS URL, not a proprietary player — subscribe to it in whichever podcast app you already use (Apple Podcasts, Pocket Casts, Overcast, or any other). And like every RSS-based app, Crumplet never re-hosts the audio itself: your player streams straight from each episode's original source.
